Information Regarding admissions:
Age:
- Learners can only attend the school from the year in which they turn 13 years.
- They may apply the previous year by writing the placement tests and be placed on the waiting list.
- Learners may still be placed on the waiting list before they turn 15 years and 4 months. The reason is that they can complete the practical Year 1 to Year 4 course of a specific practical subject (e.g. welding, woodwork etc.) before 19 years of age.
- Learners have to leave the school at the end of the year in which they turn 18 years. Should it be necessary to remain an enrolled learner of Jim van Tonder School thereafter, enrollment will be subject to a selection process where the learner’s disciplinary record, academic progress and school attendance will play an important role.
PROVINCE
- Only learners who stay in Mpumalanga may attend Jim van Tonder School.
REFERRAL TO SPECIAL EDUCATION
- Learners have to be referred by the District Based Support Team of the Department of Education (DBST) for Special Education.
- Mrs Brenda Human at Jim van Tonder School or Mr Johan Victor, the Department of Education psychologist in our district, or other psychologists of the Department of Education can test your child.
- The child’s current school should complete the SNA1, SNA2 en DBE120 forms.
- These forms together with the child’s birth certificate should be handed in when visiting Mrs Human.
- When Mr Victor or other psychologists test your child, a SNA1 and SNA2, together with a MDE120 should be handed in.
- When your child is referred for Special Education, you as parent gives consent by filling in a DBE123 a and b form when tested by Mrs Human, Mr Victor or other departmental psychologists.
- If a private psychologist assesses your child, you need to bring a SNA1 & 2, and a psychologists report to Jim van Tonder School (Mrs Human) or to Mr Victor. With them you will complete the DBE123 form in which you have to give consent for your child to attend Special Education. This report should not be older than 6 months.
